Folks, October is upon us. And I’d like to kick things off with this month’s motivating message…one of my favourites to date.
As you may know, I enjoy reading quite a bit. And though most of my reads are nutrition-related, I do try to switch it up every now and then with something different. In fact, today’s motivating message is inspired by my latest non-nutrition read, the Fire Starter Sessions, by the always inspiring Danielle Laporte. It’s like an entrepreneurial motivation manual, if you will. And if you aren’t familiar with Danielle Laporte, I highly recommend her Credo for making things happen, especially if you have a bad case of the Mondays…
Do what you say you’re going to do. -Danielle Laporte
The first time I read this I thought to myself, simple enough, right?
But then, I realized how often we don’t do what we say we’re going to do. And the potential impact abiding by this simple sentence, could have.
Now, you can apply this to many areas of your life: returning that phone call or visiting the friend you said you would. But I’m interested in how you can apply this to living a more healthful life.
Here are few ways to put it into practice:
When you tell yourself you will go for a run as soon as you wake-up the next morning. Do what you say you’re going to do.
When you tell yourself you will plan your weekly meals to facilitate your food plan. Do what you say you’re going to do.
When you tell yourself you will rid your pantry of those highly processed, temptation foods. Do what you say you’re going to do.
When you tell yourself you will try that new healthy recipe you’ve been dying to try. Do what you say you’re going to do.
When you tell yourself you will pack a homemade lunch every day this week. Do what you say you’re going to do.
When you tell yourself you will workout at least 4 times this week. Do what you say you’re going to do.
When you tell your friend you will attend that new group class together. Do what you say you’re going to do.
And most importantly,
When you tell yourself you will make time for yourself, so that you can accomplish all of the above and ultimately, reach your goal. Do what you say you’re going to do.
Personally, I know that when I don’t do what I say I’m going to do, when I break my word to myself and let myself down, I become unmotivated and frustrated. No fun.
I see this dangerous dichotomy with clients all the time. If we make a habit out of never doing what we say we will, then we will never see progress towards our health goals. Or worse, we will train ourselves into believing we are uncapable of change.
Again, no fun.
So after a long month of getting back to business, it’s time to grab October by the horns and do what we say we’re going to do. Simple, and highly effective.
Do you do what you say you’re going to do? What books are you reading right now? Any recommendations? Share below:

Such an inspiring post!
Like you said, it is so simple but often a message that is overlooked.
